Volunteer Opportunity: Southern Decadence - Event Manager

Overview

The Southern Decadence Event Manager is responsible for the management of our largest event.  We pride ourselves on offering a variety of events and programs for our guests.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of our events from Thursday morning to Monday afternoon.

Assist in developing a schedule of events, coordinating with venues and offering publicity and promotion support.

Detailed Tasks

• Assist in the development of an events schedule that will be attractive to our guests
• Work with venues to coordinate events and cross promotion and publicity
• Develop creative ways to market our public events
• Attend and oversee each event, ensuring that any last minute details are handled
• Interact with guests at events to obtain feedback and learn what could be done better in future years
• Oversee management of guest communication during event
• Oversee management of guest hospitality suite for gift and raffle prize distribution
• Solicit volunteers to assist with each event where needed
• Monitor event attendance and advance sign-up
  

Desirable Skills

• An interest in gay group events
• Experience as an attendee at gay group events
• Ability to work independently with little to no supervision
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong oral and written communication skills
• Must be a self starter who can self motivate
• Ability to develop relationships with venue managers
• Ability to track and report activities clearly

Location

• Will work from a home office location
• Will be required to be on-site in New Orleans a minimum of Wednesday to Monday of Labor Day Weekend

Compensation

• This is an unpaid position
• Will receive up to 6 nights accommodations during event
